This week, practice one-touch shooting! Hesitation is one of the main causes of failed or missed shots and driving through the shot in just one touch will help you say goodbye to hesitation. ⚽

Let’s work on your ball mastery! ⚽ First, do inside-outsides in a straight line. Make sure your toes are pointed down. Next, touch the ball with the outside of your foot, again with your toes pointed down. Roll the ball inside and right across your body to the other side. Next, an outside double touch! Again, start with an outside touch, roll the ball behind your standing foot and immediately with the inside of the same foot touch it down the line. NOW put them together! Do two sets on each side if you can. Can you stay in control and stay on the line? #SoccerSkills #YegSoccer

As we continue to look ahead to a possible Outdoor Season, EMSA must also remind members that even though soccer fields are open for individual use, there is ABSOLUTELY NO organized soccer allowed (either practice or games) at this time. Please refer to our website for updates.

It’s so hard to stay apart, but it’s necessary. @albertahealthservices has created several resources for youth and families during this time. Don’t feel bad taking advantage of them; they’re here to support you!

Another soccer drill you can practice at home is shooting from the side! Great to do with a parent or sibling, also totally doable by yourself: all you need is a goal and a ball. Practice shooting the ball from the side of the goal, rather than directly in front. EMSA is continuing to plan for the Outdoor Season by commencing with carding remotely. Once we know when the season will begin, the cards will be delivered to zone offices and distributed from there. Check out the details on how to get your ID Card on our website. #YegSoccer #YEG

EMSA relies on @cityofedmonton to direct our actions regarding #COVID19 and the Outdoor Season. We are still planning on getting kids on the fields this summer, and the City expects to re-open facilities on May 31. We will continue listening to recommendations and planning, with caution, to follow the City’s lead! Please check our website to stay updated as news emerges. #YegSoccer #Yeg

Weakness isn’t something to be ashamed of. Vulnerability isn’t something to fear. As we continue practicing physical and social distancing during this pandemic, we may be tempted to spend time dwelling on weaknesses. Instead, identify them. Work on them. And acknowledge them as future strengths.

Only have five or ten minutes? Even with a short time, you can work on your soccer skills! Here’s how to do basic inside-to-outside touches. Touch the backside of the ball and continue to move with quick feet. Keep your plant foot out of the way behind you. Do your right foot for 30 seconds, then your left foot. Rest for a few seconds then repeat the cycle for a total of five minutes.
