EMSA Referee Courses Information

2025/2026 Indoor Season

Please note that EMSA, prior to the Indoor Season, is not hosting courses for new referees. New referees are wecome to check the refcentre website HERE

All the ASA and EMSA INDOOR REFREES COURSES available are listed below:

ASA CONVERSION COURSE 

This course is for existing Youth/District/Regional/National District Referees who have not completed an Indoor Conversion Course within the last 2 years. This course is for Arena (boarded) Indoor Soccer. The course is a 6-hour in class course and 1 hour field session.

These courses are offered through refcentre Your ASA fees must be up to date to be able to participate.

To sign up for a Conversion Course, log in to your Refcentre account at www.refcentre.com – and use the ‘Registration’ menu and look for Conversion Courses with EMSA as the host.

EMSA MAIN will host the following ASA CONVERSION courses please choose only one date:

LOCATION: Edmonton WEST Facility 17415 106a Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5S 1M7
TIME: Classroom session(at the meeting room upstairs) from 9:30am to 3:30pm + Field session on field #1  form  4:00pm to 5:00pm

DATE: September 21, 2025
LOCATION: Edmonton EAST Facility 12720 Victoria Trail NW, Edmonton, AB T5A 5G4
TIME: Classroom session(at the meeting room upstairs) from 9:30am to 3:30pm + Field session on field #5   form  4:00pm to 5:00pm

DATE: September 28, 2025
LOCATION: Edmonton South Facility 6520 Roper Rd
TIME: classroom session (at the proshop) from 9:00 to 3:00pm + FIELD #12 time form 3:30pm to 4:30pm

ASA REFRESHER COURSE 

For existing Youth/District/Regional/National District Referees who have completed an Indoor Conversion Course within the last 2 years.

Your ASA fees must also be up to date. This course has two parts.

• An online modules is available on refcentre. Log into your refcentre account and under the Registration Menu look for online modules.
• A classroom session

EMSA will host the following ASA INDOOR REFRESHER courses please choose only one:

• September 13, 2025 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Edmonton South Facility 6520 Roper Rd
• September 14, 2025 from 10:00am to 1:00pm Edmonton WEST Facility 17415 106a Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5S 1M7
• September 20, 2025 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Edmonton South Facility 6520 Roper Rd
• October 1st, 2025 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at Edmonton South Facility 6520 Roper Rd

ASA FUTSAL CONVERSION COURSE 

Must have previously taken an Entry Level course and be classified as a “Youth” or “District” level official. Boarded Conversion course officials are eligible to officiate “boarded” indoor soccer under any ASA sanctioned competition. Futsal Conversion course officials are eligible to officiate “Futsal” under any ASA sanctioned completition.

Student Prequsities after registration – None

Post Course Completion After instructor completes attendance for students, they will be moved to the “Indoor” ASA Eligible list for the current season

ASA FUTSAL REFRESHER COURSE 

Required each year for returning officials that have previously attended an Entry Level course, Indoor Boarded Conversion course, or Futsal Conversion course.

Registration for refresher courses can only be completed directly through a returning officials Refcentre account. Refreshers are not visible to new students that have not completed an entry level or conversion course the year prior. Refresher courses cover updated laws/rules of the game for the season as well as additional training material on different topics.

Officials will not be moved to the eligible list until a refresher course is completed.

Student Perquisites – Complete yearly registration and payment through Refcentre, then achieve a passing grade on the Outdoor/Indoor questionnaire, also completed through Refcentre

Post Course Completion After instructor completes attendance for students, they will be moved to the outdoor, indoor or futal (as applicable) ASA Eligible list for the current season.

EMSA INDOOR MINI CONVERSION COURSE 

The EMSA Indoor Mini Referee Conversion Course is for existing ASA Registered Mini Referees that have not previously been involved in the EMSA Indoor program. The course is so that one can referee U9 boarded games in the EMSA Indoor Program.
In order to participate in this course one must fulfil the following criteria –

• • be currently registered with ASA as a Mini Referee (not Youth or District)
  • be able to officiate on Saturdays
  • be able to officiate at any of the indoor boarded facilities in Edmonton

DATE: September 27, 2025 at Edmonton South Facility 6520 Roper Rd :

• classroom from 9:30 am to 12:30pm (proshop room)
• field time from 1:00 pm to 2:00pm (field #9)

ENTRY LEVEL COURSES

This course is for new referee 14 years or older (on or before May 15th), who would like to referee U11 8v8, U13 and older 11v11, or act as an assistant referee (linesman) at any level. Any referee who has taken an Entry Level course, 14 or older would be able to referee Mini games.

AFTER YOU GET THE ASA CERTIFICATION PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS LISTED HERE

As this course (ENTRY LEVEL) is for outdoor soccer, if you want to officiate boarded indoor soccer, you will also be required to attend an ASA Indoor conversion Course after completing this course

Any referees that have taken the Entry Level Course and would like to officiate non-boarded games at Viktoria or The Edmonton Soccer Dome will need to attend this course.
